North Coast Detachment 1228 has held this event since 2006 in Clatsop County, Oregon collecting 3,473 in 2006, 3,632 in 2007, 4,142 in 2008 and . All these toys and books were given to agencies and private groups assisting needy families and children in the County to include the towns of, Astoria, Warrenton, Knappa, Jewell, Hammond, Gearhart, Seaside and Cannon Beach. Collection containers for the toys are to be located throughout the community. Persons wanting to donate funds to help purchase toys at a discount can write a check or money order made out to : Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and send it to Coordinator at PO Box 1029, Warrenton Oregon 97146 or call to have it picked up. These checks will be stamped with a special code for Clatsop county and sent by Fed-Ex to the Foundation. Upon arrival, the amount will be transferred to the Toys for Tots Credit Card for this County and the funds will be spent here to obtain Toys for our local needy families and children. Marine Corps League, North
Coast Detachment 1228 realizes the economy is weakened by many problems and
funds are low for many families in Clatsop County. We only ask you to think
of the needy children and send only what you can spare.
Mission Statement
Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps, banding together those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged from that service that they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy, voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines and former Marines and to their widows and orphans; and to perpetuate the history of the United States Marine Corps and by fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines. Detachment 1228 has members along the North Coast of Oregon and the South West Coast of Washington State. Detachment 1228 is looking for officer and enlisted, active, honorably discharged, retired Marine veterans and qualified Navy FMF Corpsmen. We are also open to other branches of the armed services for our associate membership. Our meetings are held the first Saturday of each month in Astoria, foot of 12th street, Noon, at the Baked Alaska Restaurant.
